New rsyslog AI Assistant — powered by DigitalOcean Gradient

We are excited to introduce a second rsyslog Assistant, now live at rsyslog.ai. It runs on the DigitalOcean Gradient platform and uses the Llama 3.3 Instruct (70B) open-source model — offering no-login, privacy-friendly, and open access to rsyslog expertise.

Both assistants use the same curated rsyslog knowledge base. The Gradient version has fewer technical limits than a ChatGPT Custom GPT, so its knowledge base and capabilities can expand more dynamically over time.

A strategic experiment for open AI support

This new assistant is a strategic experiment to evaluate how far open-source language models can support complex infrastructure software like rsyslog. Early internal results were strong enough that we are sharing this public preview.

It also forms part of rsyslog’s broader AI-First strategy — an initiative to embed AI responsibly across development, documentation, user education, and observability, always under human guidance and quality control. The Gradient assistant extends this vision into technical support, exploring open and privacy-respecting approaches to human-AI collaboration.

Creating the Gradient-based assistant was as easy as a ChatGPT Custom GPT, but with far greater control over context, retrieval logic, QA, and iteration speed. Gradient also lets us switch models – including commercial ones – later while keeping the same deployment and tuning approach, avoiding lock-in.

Data exchanged with the assistant is not used for model training. No login is required.

Why it matters

  • Open-source foundation: built on Llama 3.3 Instruct (70B)
  • No login barrier: instant, anonymous access from any browser
  • Full control: deep customization, QA, and tuning through Gradient
  • Future-ready: same framework can host enterprise or commercial models
  • Growing knowledge base: fewer technical constraints than ChatGPT GPTs
  • Simple site integration: added via a small DigitalOcean-provided script; we plan to embed this directly on rsyslog.com soon
